Supporting "Me Too"
All people are created equal, and should be treated fairly, with dignity and respect.
For three years, Illinois was without a Legislative Inspector General to investigate complaints about the Legislature. The office sat vacant because legislators, like my opponent Laura Fine, did not appoint anyone to fill the post until they were forced to because of recent allegations. So far, 4 people with close ties to, or working directly for Speaker Madigan and his political organizations have been forced to resign or were fired.
As State Senator, I will see to it that claims of sexual harassment and discrimination are independently investigated and properly punished. I will also hold leadership accountable.
The culture in Springfield has to change.
Individuals should be able to do their work and live their lives without the constant fear of harassment or discrimination based on gender, race, or sexual orientation.
